Liverpool face a race against time to add to their squad before the transfer window slams shut.
The Reds are the only Premier League side yet to sign a player this summer and have thus far been frustrated in their efforts to add to their squad under Arne Slot.
Martin Zubimendi decided to stay at Real Sociedad despite concrete interest from Anfield, while a deal to bring Anthony Gordon to Liverpool broke down as Newcastle United pulled the plug on it after agreeing a £75m fee.
It remains to be seen if Slot pursues alternatives to Zubimendi, but it now appears as if Liverpool have set their sights on a defender.
Liverpool among several clubs interested in Adrien Truffert

Rennes left-back Adrien Truffert has emerged as a wanted man this summer, having recently impressed for France at the 2024 Paris Olympics as they won the silver medal.
According to L’Equipe via Get French Football News, Truffert is attracting interest from Liverpool and Manchester United, with several other clubs like Wolverhampton Wanderers, Nottingham Forest and Paris Saint-Germain also keeping tabs on him.
The report also states that Liverpool – or any of the other interested clubs – will have to make an ‘irrefutable offer’ to convince Rennes to sell Truffert before the transfer deadline.
The 22-year-old, who is primarily a left-back, has been at his boyhood club since 2015 and has made 156 appearances across all competitions for Rennes.
Adrien Truffert links could have implications for Andy Robertson’s future
Truffert was described as a ‘very intelligent’ prospect by French coach Julien Stephan and his current contract expires in 2026.
If he doesn’t put pen to paper on an extension, this summer could be the last time Rennes could demand a big fee for the 22-year-old, so it remains to be seen if a transfer comes to fruition.
Liverpool will have one eye on Andy Robertson’s future, with the Scotsman’s contract also set to expire in 2026.
Robertson is on the wrong side of his 30s and the Reds have been cautious while offering contracts to their older players over the years, indicating that he’s edging closer to his departure.
However, with Kostas Tsimikas also present at the club, it’s highly unlikely Liverpool would add to their squad at left-back unless one of them were to leave.
