Man United are really interested in signing 'one of the fastest' players in Europe next year - journalist

Manchester United were one of Europe’s biggest spenders during the summer transfer window.

INEOS placed their full trust in Erik ten Hag and backed him with an eye-watering spend of £178m on five new acquisitions.

So far, the Dutchman has failed to repay that trust as Manchester United reside in 14th place, having made their worst-ever start to a Premier League season.

In fact, Man United chiefs are back in contact with Thomas Tuchel as they consider dismissing ten Hag.

Whilst INEOS decide on ten Hag’s future, the recruitment team are already working on potential signings ahead of next summer’s window.

With that said, it’s just come to light that United are eyeing one of Europe’s fastest players.

Manchester United confident they can sign Alphonso Davies in 2025

According to Sky Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg, Manchester United have made Bayern Munich fullback Alphonso Davies a desired target for 2025.

United accept that signing Davies will be a difficult deal to pull off, especially considering Real Madrid are also circling.

However, that’s not stopped them from carrying out their due diligence on the Canada international, who could become available on a free transfer next summer.

The 23-year-old has now entered the final eight months of his deal at Bayern and no concrete talks have taken place to extend it thus far.

Davies one of Europe’s fastest players

Davies, who’s been labelled ‘one of the fastest’ footballers in the world by the Running Magazine, actually topped the speed kings charts during the 2022/23 Champions League campaign.

The Bayern full-back uses his electrifying speed really well, too, as he ranks in the top three per cent for progressive take-ons per 90 compared to his positional peers across Europe, according to FBref.

Davies’ arrival would certainly address Man United’s problem area at left-back – as they continue to be without the injured Luke Shaw.

Chelsea’s Ben Chilwell is also on Man United’s radar ahead of the January transfer window.
