Report: Liverpool lining up January bid for £21m fullback who plays just like Kyle Walker

Liverpool had a pretty quiet summer transfer window by all accounts.

Arne Slot made just two acquisitions in the form of Federico Chiesa and Giorgi Mamardashvili, who has returned to Valencia on loan for the season.

Liverpool did try to sign Martin Zubimendi but that transfer failed to materialise after he decided to remain in the Basque region.

So evidently, Liverpool still have funds to spend and they’re already plotting a move to sign a defender this Janaury transfer window.

Liverpool lining up January bid for Michael Kayode

According to Italian outlet Corriere dello Sport, Liverpool are considering a bid for Fiorentina fullback Michael Kayode.

Slot has placed Kayode on his transfer wishlist, though, he isn’t the only Premier League manager who’s keen on the Italy under-21 international.

Tottenham Hotspur had a £17m bid rejected for Kayode during the summer and Aston Villa were also circling at the time.

He’s hardly played this season but Fiorentina still value the defender at £21m.

Kayode likened to Kyle Walker

Earlier this year, analytics outlet Breaking The Lines likened Kayode to Manchester City’s jet-heeled right-back Kyle Walker.

“Most of the time, Kayode’s positioning is intelligent, but when he jumps out too quickly, he can get caught in behind.

“Luckily, his top recovery pace and athleticism give him an extra tool up his sleeve to stop counters, similar to City right-back Kyle Walker.”

The outlet also labelled Kayode as one of Europe’s ‘finest’ fullbacks, so evidently if Liverpool were to land his signature, it’d be a really promising acquisition with plenty of upside.

Perhaps his arrival would also free up Alexander-Arnold to fully convert to a midfielder – which is where Slot has been playing him in possession.
