With Liverpool now linked and the forward in the form of his life, the ship seems to have sailed as far as Nottingham Forest are concerned.
Nuno Espirito Santo’s side came close. But not quite close enough.
And while an impressive start to the new Premier League season has calmed fears about a lack of big-money attackers costing Nottingham Forest their top-flight status, missing out on Omar Marmoush is certainly made more painful by his barnstorming Bundesliga displays in the colours of Eintracht Frankfurt.
HITC reported in August that Nottingham Forest were closing in on a move for Marmoush in the final week of the summer transfer window.
The £33 million-rated attacker performed a dramatic late U-turn, however, opting to stay put at a Frankfurt side for whom Marmoush is rapidly emerging as a potentially world-leading centre-forward.
With Liverpool now interested after a quite remarkable last few weeks – Marmoush has eight goals and four assists from just six Bundesliga appearances in 2024/25 – the former Wolfsburg speedster should have his pick of Europe’s elite clubs should he maintain his current rate of progress.

Liverpool target Omar Marmoush can be ‘better’ than Mo Salah
Comparisons have often been drawn between Marmoush and Egypt team-mate Mo Salah.
And with that Liverpool contract expiring in the summer of 2025 – Salah has admirers in Saudi Arabia and the American MLS – it is not beyond the realms of possibility that Marmoush could be the man to inherit the throne of Anfield’s ‘Egyptian King’.
Whether Marmoush will ever ascend to the same virtigo-inducing heights as Salah, only time will tell.
Egyptian reporter Tarek Metwally believes that Frankfurt’s number seven is further along in his development than Salah was at this juncture, however.
“Everyone here is predicting a very great future for him. In my opinion, Marmoush is in a better position than Salah was at his age,” Metwally tells Bild, the Bundesliga’s top scorer turning 25 last February.
“If he continues like this, he will be better [than Salah] at some point.
“Salah was initially characterised by his speed, and then developed further. Marmoush, on the other hand, is also very fast but already has other skills. Some people in Egypt would like to see him in the Premier League, especially at one of the top clubs.”
Frankfurt director explained Marmoush’s Nottingham Forest snub
Those hopes could soon come true.
Nottingham Forest also missed out on Feyenoord’s Santiago Gimenez over the summer while failing with a £25 million bid for Brentford attacker Yoane Wissa. And as Gimenez confirms interest from Italian giants AC Milan, Marmoush may also now be aiming at a club higher up the footballing pyramid.
“Omar feels extremely comfortable and knows what he has in Eintracht,” Frankfurt director Markus Krosche told reporters after Marmoush turned down that switch to the City Ground.
“There was concrete interest from a club, but Omar has clearly chosen [to stay with] us. First and foremost, because Omar feels completely at home here.
“He knows what he has in us. After an outstanding first year like he had with us, interest from other clubs is normal.
“Through his performances, he has earned a certain status with us and with the fans. In the end, there was a specific inquiry, but Omar has clearly committed to us and will continue to hunt for goals for Eintracht.”
