Everton welcomed seven new faces to Goodison Park during the summer transfer window but none of them have been able to stop the club’s current slump.
Sean Dyche is walking on thing ice on Merseyside with one more loss possibly signaling the end of his time as Everton manager.
There’s no lack of squad depth and on paper the Toffees have a pretty solid looking squad, so fans have started to point the finger at Dyche.
Everton signed the likes of Jake O’Brien, Armando Broja, Iliman Ndiaye, Tim Iroegbunam, Jesper Lindstrom, Asmir Begovic and Orel Mangala this summer.
And, it looks as if the Merseyside club looked into bringing one specific new face to the club on deadline day, but nothing materialised…
Everton looked into late move for £21m star on deadline day
The Toffees were in talks with Rennes over Lorenz Assignon and there was a potential swap deal that Fabrizio Romano has been tight lipped over involving Dominic Calvert-Lewin.
However, it was another player who the Toffees supposedly tried to sign on deadline day.
According to TalkSPORT, Everton also explored a move for Sofyan Amrabat late in the transfer window, but he has since signed for Fenerbahce on loan from Fiorentina.
The failure to land Amrabat looks like it led to Mangala making his way to Goodison Park, which isn’t a bad thing as the midfielder is far more proven than the Moroccan in the Premier League.

Would Amrabat have suited Everton?
Sofyan Amrabat had a torrid time of things at Manchester United last season, with Jeff Stelling even stating that Amrabat was the biggest disappointment in the Premier League.
The Moroccan appeared 30 times for Manchester United but didn’t show anything that warrants a stay in the Premier League, so it seems strange to see Everton’s interest.
Idrissa Gueye, Iroegbunam, Mangala, Abdoulaye Doucoure and James Garner are the Toffees’ current central midfield options, so they’re pretty stacked.
It’s a nice mix of youth and experience that Dyche has at his disposal, and you certainly wouldn’t say that Amrabat strengthens that list, apart from potentially adding some grit and fight.
