Chelsea are still on the lookout for a new striker before the transfer window closes.

Chelsea have been linked with Victor Osimhen, while the Blues have also held talks over signing Ivan Toney.

However, with Saudi clubs circling, there’s a chance that neither of those deals get done.

Luckily, Chelsea do have a few backup options in mind.

Speaking on the London is Blue Podcast, Ben Jacobs has been discussing Chelsea’s transfer plans, and he noted that Jonathan David is still a transfer target who is on the backburner.

Interestingly, this comes after Tottenham were linked with a move for Jonathan David.

Jonathan David to Chelsea is on the backburner

Jacobs shared what he knows about the Lille striker and Chelsea.

“We still know they reached out to Jonathan David many months ago. It’s not advanced, but I’m really surprised that at £25m, he’s not gone anywhere yet. Let’s see if there’s any late movement, these are backburner targets in the same bracket as Evan Ferguson,” Jacobs said.

Jonathan David is a bargain

As Jacobs says, it’s a real shock that nobody has gone in for David this summer.

The Canadian striker has been banging in the goals in Ligue 1 for a long time now, and at £25m, there aren’t many better-value strikers on the market.

At the age of just 24, David has tons of room to grow and improve as well, and it’s unlikely that his value will go down from this point.

While Osimhen and Toney are Chelsea’s two big-name targets, David is a player who shouldn’t be forgotten as the Blues hunt for a new striker.

With less than 48 hours to go in the transfer window, any team would be wise to take a punt on David as this is a player with bags of ability and a lot of untapped potential as well.

David could be on the move in the final days of the transfer window.
