Arsenal bid for Joan Garcia

According to Fabrizio Romano, Arsenal have just submitted a €20m (£17m) bid for Joan Garcia.

The ‘excellent’ goalkeeper is coming off the back of a Man of the Match Performance against Atletico Madrid on Wednesday, and the Gunners are now pushing to get this deal done.

Unfortunately for Arsenal, this bid is unlikely to be accepted.

Indeed, according to Romano, Espanyol are hoping to receive €30m (£25m) for Garcia – his full release clause.

Joan Garcia will cost a lot

£25m for Garcia is more than Arsenal should be paying for a second-choice goalkeeper.

The Spaniard looks like a talented stopper, but that is a lot of money for a player who will be spending the majority of the season sat on the bench behind David Raya.

Raya has proven to be undroppable at Arsenal, and while the Gunners do need a new number two, there are cheaper options out there.

Of course, at the age of just 23, Garcia could be one for the future at Arsenal, but with other glaring holes in their squad, Arsenal may be better off looking at a cheaper option.

Sam Tickle has been linked, and while he’s not as proven as Garcia, he’d be a decent option if Arsenal are just looking for a backup emergency option.

Arsenal’s first bid for Garcia will likely fall short of what of what Espanyol want, but with 36 hours left in the window, Arsenal may well go in with another offer in the coming hours.

This is certainly a situation to keep an eye on.
