Riccardo Calafiori has arrived at Arsenal as the Gunners’ only major signing of the summer transfer window.
Arsenal have spent big money to sign Calafiori from Bologna this summer, but, at the moment, it’s not quite clear where he will fit into this team.
Indeed, Arsenal had the best defensive record in the Premier League last season, and breaking into that back four is no easy feat.
Speaking on The Rest is Football, Micah Richards has been discussing Calafiori’s move to Arsenal, and he has one big question about the Italian after his move to north London.

Micah Richards’ question about Riccardo Calafiori
Richards shared one question about the defender.
“Calafiori is amazing. We all saw him. I don’t know where is going to play though because Gabriel has been outstanding. Saliba has been excellent too. I know it’s probably not just for cover but you’re not taking out Ben White. Zinchenko has done alright in pre-season,” Richards said.
Where will Riccardo Calafiori play?
Richards is right to question where Calafiori will play for Arsenal, because, at the moment, it is very unclear.
The Italian played at centre-back last year, but given Gabriel Magalhaes’ incredible form, it’s hard to imagine Calafiori will be playing at the heart of Arsenal’s defence this season.
Calafiori can also play at left-back, and that may be where he’s more likely to start this season.
That said, Oleksandr Zinchenko has been bright in that position in pre-season, while Jurrien Timber is also capable of playing on the left side of the defence.
Calafiori could end up being a fantastic signing for Arsenal, but, at the moment, it’s unclear what Mikel Arteta’s plan for his new signing is.
It will be interesting to see how Calafiori is used at Arsenal this season.
