Arsenal will be looking to win the Premier League this season after running Manchester City to the wire two years running.
Indeed, the Gunners are looking to finally topple Pep Guardiola’s side, and they have a great chance of doing just that.
As the likes of Kevin De Bruyne and Kyle Walker get a year older and slower at Manchester City, the likes of Bukayo Saka and William Saliba are becoming better and more streetwise at Arsenal.
However, according to Alan Shearer, speaking on The Rest is Football, Arsenal are still a little bit short.
Indeed, the pundit says that he thinks Arsenal can win the league this season, but he’s of the opinion that the north London club need to sign a top class striker if they are to become champions.
The signing Arsenal need to make to win the league
Shearer shared his verdict on Arsenal’s hopes.
“I am going to say if Arsenal sign a top class striker before the end of the window. I think they still need a striker and if they get the striker in I think they will still win the league,” Shearer said.
Which striker could Arsenal sign this summer?
Shearer says that Arsenal need to sign a striker, and they could end up doing just that.
Indeed, the Gunners are in the market for a new centre-forward this summer, and according to Steve Kay, a move for Viktor Gyokeres could still be on the cards for Arsenal.
“We know for a long while Arsenal have been massive fans of Gyokeres over there, that is still not dead. The only thing that has changed with Gyokeres is that in January there was a chance we would’ve paid the £86m, but with the form of Kai Havertz, Arsenal would never pay that for any forward,” Kay said.
“It’s all about who becomes available, whether it’s a winger or a striker, Arsenal can go either or. If Gyokeres is available and Arsenal can get him for £50m, I can guarantee he would be the number one, and as I said earlier in the show, that’s not dead, they are massive fans of Gyokeres.”
Whether it’s Gyokeres or someone else, the addition of a new number nine could catapult Arsenal to the next level this season.
