Tottenham Hotspur remain active in this summer’s transfer window despite splashing some big cash already.

Ange Postecoglou knew at the end of the 2023/24 season that he needed to strengthen multiple areas of his squad, and he has done a great job so far.

Tottenham have re-signed Timo Werner on another loan, while Archie Gray and Dominic Solanke have both arrived in deals worth close to £100 million.

Spurs aren’t done just yet, they are keen to add a few more players, and talks have begun for the transfer of Brazilian defender Vanderson.

People close to Vanderson think Tottenham could sign him

Tottenham are in talks to sign Vanderson, and Brazilian media outlet UOL have now shared the latest on the situation.

Spurs seem to have jumped back into the market to replace Emerson Royal.

The right-back, after months of speculation, sealed a permanent move to AC Milan, thus bringing an end to his three-year stay in North London.

Tottenham have turned to Vanderson, a player they have been monitoring since the summer transfer window opened back in June.

Reports have claimed that Vanderson is aware that Tottenham want to sign him, and UOL have some more positive news.

It has been revealed that the right-back is one of Spurs’ ‘main targets’ this summer, and ‘people connected to the player believe in the possibility of a breakthrough’ in talks between the clubs.

Monaco, as things stand, are demanding €40 million (£34m) for Vanderson.

Why Tottenham are making a mistake by going after Vanderson

Vanderson is an ‘exceptional‘ player and he has been very good for Monaco over the last year.

Yes, the Brazilian would be a good option to deputise for Pedro Porro at Tottenham too, so it’s easy to understand why Postecoglou is considering him.

However, spending £34 million on Vanderson makes no sense whatsoever as Tottenham have Djed Spence and Archie Gray both available to fill in at right-back when Porro needs a break.

We think Tottenham should just use that money to sign a new midfielder – perhaps Conor Gallagher – and also a backup left-back. Those two positions are far more important.

As for the right-back situation, we think Postecoglou should trust Spence and give him an opportunity after a very impressive pre-season.
