Report shares why Riccardo Calafiori to Arsenal has been delayed as fourth club butt in over sell-on clauses

Arsenal fans have been eagerly awaiting the signing of Riccardo Calafiori for what seems like weeks now.

The Gunners have been in talks over a deal for Calafiori for some time and it’s only in recent days that suggestions of a medical in England have now gathered pace.

Arsenal are believed to be paying close to £40m for Calafiori and at the moment, it very much looks like the deal is going to get over the line.

A delay in the deal involving a late bid for Calafiori from another Premier League club has been suggested as one of the reasons behind the deal not being done just yet.

However, another report has now listed a second as of yet unreported matter that has potentially being holding the deal back.

Fourth club involved in delay in Riccardo Calafiori to Arsenal deal

According to reports from Swiss outlet Blick, there has been a hitch in the deal related to the sell-on clauses involved.

As has been widely reported, Swiss side Basel are due around 40% of the fee from Bologna, which is why the Italian side have been trying to maximise the sale.

However, Blick claims that there is a fourth club, Roma, involved in the sell-on issues as well.

Their report claims that Roma are also entitled to a cut of the sale between Bologna and Basel, meaning Basel could end up giving nearly half of their own sell on to the Italian side.

Arsenal, it seems, have been caught up in this and in the end, this is what could have been causing the delay with the deal.

Roma have been pushing themselves into the deal and making sure they don’t get undercut.

Deals like this can often be complicated but with four clubs involved, it is little wonder that we’ve seen Calafiori’s medical and announcement held back.

Arsenal fans, then, will be hoping everything is now sorted and a deal can be announced this weekend.
