Riccardo Calafiori looks set to become Arsenal’s first signing of the summer.

The Bologna defender’s move to the Emirates appears to be all but done, and an announcement could be coming in the next few days.

Calafiori being Arsenal’s first signing of the summer is something of a surprise. After all, midfielders and attackers looked to be the order of the day at the Emirates heading into this summer.

Interestingly, the defensive additions may not be over yet.

Indeed, according to CalcioMercato, after the signing of Calafiori, Arsenal are interested in another Serie A defender.

Arsenal interested in Michael Kayode

According to this report, Arsenal are among the clubs interested in Michael Kayode and they have been courting him for months.

At the age of just 19, this would be one for the future, but it’s certainly one to be excited about.

Kayode has already been making waves in Serie A for Fiorentina, earning glowing praise from his manager, Vincenzo Italiano, last year.

“Kayode has a strong character, he fears nothing, and it’s important when you are this young,” Italiano said.

“Moreover, he is physically strong and motivated after winning the (U19) Euros. When he returned to Florence, he kept the gold medal around his neck for a few days.”

Kayode could be a star

Michael Kayode looks like he has what it takes to be a star, and at the age of just 19, he has so much time on his side.

Kayode is a right-back who loves to bomb forward, and while Ben White plays that role brilliantly for Mikel Arteta’s side, the reality is that the former Brighton man was originally brought in to play as a centre-half.

Arsenal may eventually need to upgrade to a more natural right-back if they want to push on, and perhaps that’s why Kayode is being targeted this summer.

This young man is certainly a player who could step into the spotlight as he matures in the coming years.
