'Concrete possibility': Fabrizio Romano names the player who is now expected to leave Liverpool in the summer

Unless Mohamed Salah, Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold leave on free transfers in the summer, Liverpool would not need a major squad upheaval in the summer.

Arne Slot has turned Liverpool into one of the favourites to win both the Premier League and the Champions League this season while they are also in the final of the Carabao Cup.

However, the Reds will be fully aware that come the summer, they will have the golden opportunity of further improving one of the best squads in the world by signing new names.

The common practice at Liverpool over the past couple of years in particular has been selling players before bringing in fresh faces.

The Merseyside-based club look set to win the league alongside other trophies this campaign — which would make several of their current players sellable assets in the summer.

Especially if the name in question is Darwin Nunez, who is a big name and still just 25 years old — as he could have potentially departed Anfield in January.

Darwin Nunez expected to leave Liverpool in the summer

Nunez was close to signing for Al-Nassr last month for around £70.5 million but a move broke down due to Liverpool not having any adequate replacements for the Uruguayan striker.

Nunez is expected to demand interest this summer, however.

Fabrizio Romano discussed Nunez’s future and revealed that the expectation is that the Saudi Pro League will re-ignite their interest in him at the end of the season as it looks likely that he will leave Liverpool this summer.

Romano said on his YouTube channel: “The expectation in the industry, of those close to all parties involved in this story is that from Saudi, they can return for Darwin Nunez. Let’s see if something will also happen with European clubs maybe interest but from Saudi, they remain keen on Darwin Nunez. And so, I think Darwin has concrete chances to leave Liverpool in the summer transfer window.”

“Today, I can confirm that there is this feeling and there is a concrete possibility for Darwin to go and for Liverpool to change something up front.”

The former Benfica goalscorer has come under heavy criticism since his move to England, with Robbie Fowler insisting Nunez is not Liverpool-standard. This season, the Artigas-born forward has just started seven league games as well as Arne Slot does not seem to fancy him as well.

Darwin Nunez hinted he is dreaming of big-money Saudi Pro League move

In a recent interview with Pro: Direct Soccer alongside Luis Diaz, Nunez hinted that his heart is set on a big-money move to Saudi Arabia.

When quizzed about the cars both players drive, Nunez replied: “I have a Lamborghini.” Diaz promptly interrupted his teammate and replied: “Darwin has four cars.”

Nunez replied: “No, three in Spain, two here.”

Diaz said: “Too much money, hey, too much money, big money!”

Nunez replied: “I need more money!”

When the interviewer joked Nunez will get a pay rise if he scores more goals, he whispered in his ear, saying: “Saudi. Come on Saudi. Ring ring!” and smiled, suggesting he has made his mind up.
