Tottenham Hotspur had a blockbuster end to the winter transfer window, and it was almost even more exciting.

Indeed, while Mathys Tel made a big U-turn and signed for Tottenham on deadline day, there was one box that remained unticked towards the end of the transfer window.

Tottenham wanted to sign an extra centre-back on deadline day, but nothing came off on that front.

Tottenham wanted Axel Disasi at one point, while Spurs also made a big bid for Marc Guehi, reportedly worth around £70m.

Tottenham made a serious move for Guehi towards the end of the window, and many are wondering whether or not this could be revisited in the summer.

Speaking on Market Madness, Dean Jones has been discussing Guehi’s future, and he says that the defender is more likely to go to Chelsea in the summer rather than Spurs.

Marc Guehi more likely to go to Chelsea than Tottenham

Jones shared what he knows about Guehi after Tottenham’s late bid.

The journalist says that Spurs’ bid for Guehi took him by surprise, stating that he’s heard for a long time that Guehi is more likely to head to Chelsea in the summer.

“I had some scepticism when I first saw they went in for him. I’d heard nothing about it. At Tottenham I have some reasonable contacts, but it wasn’t something I’d heard before all of this,” Jones said.

“They probably sensed that this was their big chance to go and do it because the likelihood is that Marc Guehi would choose to go to Chelsea, I’ve heard that for a long time now, and that will probably still be the case if Guehi leaves Crustal Palace at the end of the season then that’s where he ends up.”

What Marc Guehi said about leaving Chelsea

Guehi could be set to join Chelsea in the summer, and, if he does, that wouldn’t be the first time he’s pulled on a blue shirt.

Indeed, Guehi is a product of the Chelsea academy, and he even made two appearances for the first-team at Stamford Bridge too.

Guehi left Chelsea for Crystal Palace back in 2021, and, via Sky Sports, the defender found it very difficult to leave the Blues.

“It hurt a lot just because I was there for such a long time. It’s such a different feeling leaving there and not going back to where you’ve been for so long. But in order to grow, sometimes you have to take the hard choice and take the hard path sometimes,” Guehi said.

Guehi clearly still has a lot of love for Chelsea, so it makes sense as to why he may be more open to joining Enzo Maresca’s side than Tottenham in the summer.

Guehi may be off to Chelsea, and if that does indeed end up being the case, Spurs may need to identify another big-name defensive target to come in at the end of the season.
