Chelsea fans fear they have just lost ‘very good’ academy talent to Tottenham on transfer deadline day

Tottenham Hotspur have just announced the arrival of one of Chelsea’s top academy talents and the Blues’ supporters are not happy they have let him go.

Tottenham secured Mathys Tel on loan from Bayern Munich with an option to buy possibly the most dramatic deal on transfer deadline day.

But they also secured three under-the-radar deals as they added a trio of top Premier League youngsters to their academy.

The North London club have shifted their recruitment drive to targeting top young talents over the last year and that continued throughout the January window.

Chelsea fans react to losing Reiss Russell-Denney to Tottenham

Tottenham have signed Reiss Russell-Denney from Chelsea’s academy and their supporters who closely follow their young Cobham stars aren’t happy.

The 18-year-old hasn’t been given many opportunities for the West London club’s Under-21 side and he has now made the switch across the capital.

Tottenham Under-21s are the reigning Premier League 2 champions, however, after losing some key players over the summer they have really struggled this season.

So it is no wonder the Lilywhites have moved to bring in some more talents for Wayne Burnett’s team and the England U19 talent looks to be a solid addition.

Chelsea fans have taken to X to react to the loss of their academy player and are clearly unhappy with the club for letting him go to Spurs.

One supporter said: “These players aren’t silly. They see how Cobham’s talents are being treated. Clearlake have ruined one of the best academies in the world.”

“Wasn’t involved much the past few months. In my opinion, a valuable midfielder/attacker who takes excellent set pieces. Two-footed, gets goals from open play, always makes good decisions in final third and wins second balls,” added another.

There was yet more frustration towards Chelsea letting him leave: “Reiss Russell-Denny is one of the rarest midfield players I’ve seen at Academy level. Goals, set pieces, ball carrier and decent defensively.”

“Damn, didn’t see this coming. Good luck to him! Looks like a very good player in the making,” claimed another fan.

Tottenham sign two more top academy talents

Tottenham completed two further academy additions in Luca Furnell-Gill from Liverpool and Dan Batty from Manchester City who have both signed until 2028.

Furnell-Gill has struggled for game time at Liverpool under-18s making just five appearances and he will be hoping to secure more minutes at Hotspur Way.

Meanwhile, Batty is an attacking midfielder who has featured on ten occasions for City’s academy and now he will play for Spurs 18 side.
