Borussia Dortmund have a history of signing young players from Manchester City.

Manchester City sold Jadon Sancho to Dortmund in 2021, who went on to set the world alight in the Bundesliga.

In 2022, Jayden Braaf let Pep Guardiola’s side in favour of a move to Germany as well.

However, the Dutch winger failed to have the same impact that Sancho did in a Dortmund shirt.

Jamie Bynoe-Gittens, who headed to Borussia Dortmund from City in 2020 looks like he has the makings of a potentially world-class player.

Once again, the German giants have arrived to the Sky Blues’ doorstep to sign one of their youngsters.

Borussia Dortmund contact Man City to sign Max Alleyne

Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Borussia Dortmund have approached Manchester City to sign their 18-year-old centre-back Max Alleyne.

The Italian journalist has claimed that several Premier League clubs are also interested in Alleyne’s signature, who was signed by City from Southampton in 2021.

But Fabrizio Romano has stressed “contacts [are] ongoing” between Borussia Dortmund and Manchester City to understand what it would take to complete a potential deal for him.

During his debut season at City, Alleyne played for the U-18s where he made 16 appearances and won a league title at the end of the campaign.

Since then, the highly-rated defender has made the step up to Manchester City’s Elite Development Squad (EDS) and has even been named in matchday squads.

Pep Guardiola said Max Alleyne has “special quality”

The English giants’ 3-2 win against Red Star Belgrade in December 2023 was a special night for their young players, with Oscar Bobb and Micah Hamilton getting on the scoresheet, who also both started as well as Rico Lewis.

Mahamadou Susoho also came off the bench to make his senior debut.

But after the contest, Pep Guardiola regretted not bringing Alleyne as a substitute, who he believes has “special quality.”

Guardiola said via Manchester Evening News: “It’s not easy to give opportunities in that level because in big clubs people don’t wait but the situation we had was really good. At the end I wanted to put Max on as a central defender because he has a special quality with the ball but the game was not quite under control but it’s a big compliment for all the academy for many years.”

Guardiola is blamed for letting Manchester City’s youngsters leave such as Cole Palmer and Morgan Rogers, who have become top players elsewhere and the Catalan would be hoping Alleyne does not become a superstar at Borussia Dortmund if he completes a transfer to Nuri Sahin’s side.
