Arsenal are not having the best of times at the moment.

Expected to challenge for the Premier League title this season Arsenal are now nine points behind leaders Liverpool.

While it would be unwise to write off Arsenal’s chances of winning the Premier League title this season, it does appear as though the North London club could face a fight to even finish in the top four.

One of the reasons why Arsenal are not doing as well as expected is because Kai Havertz is not scoring enough goals.

Havertz tends to start as the striker for the Gunners, but the Germany international has found the back of the net just four times in 11 Premier League appearances so far this season.

Gabriel Jesus is also an option for Arsenal, but manager Mikel Arteta has already identified a potential target in the attacking department.

TuttoMercatoWeb reported in September that Arsenal could make a move to sign Lille striker Jonathan David in the January transfer window.

The report in the Italian news outlet claimed that David, could be available for just £20 million because he is out of contract at Lille at the end of the season.

Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio has now reported that David’s preference would be to move to the Premier League, which would be a massive boost to Arsenal’s chances of signing him.

TuttoJuve quotes Di Marzio as saying about David: “It’s true that during the last market in January, many teams focused on concluding expiring deals, and Inter also falls into this group.

“Last February they concluded the purchases of Taremi and Zielinski. I don’t know if they will repeat the same operation with David.

“I know he would prefer to move to the Premier League, it was one of his preferences communicated to his representatives.

“Let’s hope he manages to convince himself to come to Italy.”

What has been said about Arsenal target Jonathan David

David is one of the best strikers in Europe and is rated very highly.

The 24-year-old Canada international has scored seven goals in eight Ligue 1 starts and four goals in three UEFA Champions League starts so far this season.

David scored 19 goals and gave four assists in Ligue 1 last season, and found the back of the net 24 times and provided four assists in 36 league starts in 2022-23.

Arsenal legend Thierry Henry rates the striker highly and said on CBC Sports in February 2022: When you have a player like Jonathan David, who runs the way he does, in behind.

“His directness. Don’t ask him to come to play or assist because he has none this season.

“If he sees the centre-back dropping, then he will go in behind. But as soon as he sees there is a gap, he will run and he is also pretty strong too and he loves contacts.”

Canada head coach Jesse Marsch said on the Canadian Soccer Daily this week: “I’ve advertised him often as the most intelligent footballer I’ve ever coached.

“His ability to put things to practice, his ability to read in the game, what’s necessary. He’s really clever.”
