Crystal Palace have made a poor start to the new Premier League season.

Oliver Glasner’s side ended last term in blistering form and many tipped them to challenge for Europe this year.

But that has not transpired so far and it’s become evident that Crystal Palace will need to dip into the transfer market this winter to improve their squad.

With that said, it has just come to light that Palace are showing an interest in a Chelsea outcast, though, they face competition from a rival Premier League club.

Crystal Palace interested in Ben Chilwell

According to The Sun, Crystal Palace are interested in Chelsea defender Ben Chilwell, who has been made surplus to requirements by Enzo Maresca.

Maresca tried to navigate Chilwell’s exit over the summer but no suitors were forthcoming in presenting an offer.

TBR Football reported last week that Manchester United have made Chilwell a top target in January, with a left-back high on Erik ten Hag’s wishlist.

Fulham are also thought to be considering a move for the £50m left-back, so evidently, Palace will have to overcome stiff competition to land his signature.

Chilwell statistics compared to Tyrick Mitchell

If Palace were to sign Chilwell in January, he’d be competing against Tyrick Mitchell – who has represented England previously – for a spot in Glasner’s starting 11.

Here is how their Premier League careers compare.

Based on the statistics, Chilwell would clearly be an upgrade on Mitchell, especially going forward.

That’s often been a criticism of Mitchell’s game, so perhaps the potential acquisition of the Chelsea full-back would improve Palace’s threat down the left.
