Chelsea have received widespread criticism for their scattergun approach to recruitment – although some of the club’s own staff members are already questioning a summer transfer.
The Blues signed 11 new players during the summer transfer window, including one who Newcastle and Manchester United were very keen to land, but that specific deal is already being scrutinised within Stamford Bridge…
Chelsea insiders confused by Tosin Adarabioyo signing
Ben Jacobs has now claimed that some staff members in the football department at Chelsea are already asking questions about the signing of Tosin Adarabioyo.
The 26-year-old was signed on a free transfer after his contract at Fulham expired, and was also handed the No.4 shirt as he looked set to become a key player in west London.
However, the Englishman has been left on the bench by Enzo Maresca in all three Premier League games so far, with staff members at Chelsea questioning why he was signed, but Trevoh Chalobah was allowed to leave on loan for Crystal Palace.
It comes after talkSPORT claimed that Newcastle offered Tosin £100,000-a-week to join them.
Elsewhere, a story from the Daily Mail stated that Manchester United also wanted to sign Tosin – but Chelsea stole a march on the Red Devils.
Newcastle must be more angry than Manchester United
Both Eddie Howe and Erik ten Hag are surely furious to hear about what Chelsea staff think of Tosin, although Newcastle are presumably going to be the more frustrated party.
After missing out on the man from Paddington, Newcastle eventually went to drastic measures in the hunt for a new central defender, offering a club-record £65m to sign Marc Guehi from Crystal Palace just before the transfer deadline.
However, that was only after Newcastle saw four other bids rejected for the England international, meaning there was little time for Paul Mitchell – Director of Football at St James’ Park – to pursue alternatives.
Had Chelsea just stepped aside and let Tosin join Newcastle, who knows what the summer transfer window would have had in store for the Magpies.
