Liverpool are often praised for the way in which they handle player recruitment at Anfield.
The Reds rarely spend millions on a player unless they need to – often preferring to promote a young talent such as Conor Bradley or Jarell Quansah – while the stars who are signed for big money often come at good value, such as the £34m Mohamed Salah, the £37m Luis Diaz and the £8m Andrew Robertson, among others.
Liverpool are also regularly praised for maximising sales too, memorably making £19m from the sale of a free transfer in Dominic Solanke, as well as £15m for Jordon Ibe and £6m for Brad Smith.
However, there is another aspect of recruitment at Liverpool which nobody ever seems to talk about…
Liverpool seemingly have a focus on breaking international markets
Take a look at Liverpool’s squad, and the immense diversity stands out.
Just in the starting XI alone from Sunday’s 3-0 win at Old Trafford, Arne Slot had ten different nationalities on the pitch.
- Alisson Becker (Brazil) 🇧🇷
- Trent Alexander-Arnold (England) 🏴
- Ibrahima Konate (France) 🇫🇷
- Virgil van Dijk (Netherlands) 🇳🇱
- Andrew Robertson (Scotland) 🏴
- Alexis Mac Allister (Argentina) 🇦🇷
- Ryan Gravenberch (Netherlands) 🇳🇱
- Dominik Szoboszlai (Hungary) 🇭🇺
- Luis Diaz (Colombia) 🇨🇴
- Diogo Jota (Portugal) 🇵🇹
- Mohamed Salah (Egypt) 🇪🇬

Liverpool also had a Japan international on the bench in Wataru Endo, a Greece international is Kostas Tsimikas, and a Uruguay international in Darwin Nunez.
In our view, this may be a deliberate attempt to gatecrash a number of different markets across the planet – growing the already large popularity of Liverpool as a football club.
Federico Chiesa and Giorgi Mamardashvili signings bolster this theory
Furthermore, the two signings Liverpool made this summer added two new nationalities to the group.
Federico Chiesa – who arrived in a £10.9m move from Juventus – is an Italy international, the only Italian at Anfield, while Liverpool also signed their first ever Georgian in Giorgi Mamardashvili in a £25m switch from Valencia.

Just from the aforementioned players, there are 15 different nationalities, while Liverpool also boast a Republic of Ireland international in Caoimhin Kelleher and a Northern Ireland international in Bradley.
Whether it is deliberate or not, Liverpool clearly have a large diversity of footballers at Anfield, which surely helps to bring in millions of pounds when it comes to marketing around the globe.
