Tottenham finally got their Harry Kane replacement through the door this summer as Dominic Solanke arrived from Bournemouth.
Solanke has had something of a slow start to life at Tottenham, he failed to score in his debut, squandering numerous chances, while he’s missed Spurs’ last two games due to injury.
Speaking on the Seaman Says Podcast, Troy Deeney has been discussing Solanke’s role at Tottenham, and he says that Ivan Toney would’ve been the better signing this summer.
Deeney reckons that Toney is the more natural goalscorer between the pair and that Spurs should’ve gone for the £40m man ahead of Solanke.

Tottenham should’ve signed Ivan Toney
Deeney shared his verdict on the former Brentford striker.
“Ivan Toney was available, let’s use him as a case in point. Would he add value to Chelsea? Yes, he would score more than Nicolas Jackson. In my opinion he would score more than Solanke at Spurs. Everyone is looking for that mobile, running striker, the goalscoring comes like fifth in the list of attributes,” Deeney said.
Ivan Toney vs Dominic Solanke
This is a very interesting debate to say the least.
Deeney reckons that Toney is better than Solanke, but last season’s numbers would suggest differently.
Of course, Toney spent most of last season out suspended, but he still only scored four goals in his 17 appearances last term.
Meanwhile, Solanke netted 19, which is a much better goal ratio.
Toney has his 20 goals in a season in the past, but based on the past 12 months, Solanke is the better option.
There’s a reason Peter Crouch has named Dominic Solanke as his signing of the summer.
Unfortunately, it will now be very difficult to compare these two players as Toney has jetted off to Saudi Arabia to earn an absolute fortune while Solanke remains in the Premier League playing at the top level with Tottenham.
It will certainly be interesting to see if England continue to pick Toney over Solanke.
