Aston Villa had one of the busiest transfer windows out of any club in the Premier League this summer.
With over £150m spent on the likes of Amadou Onana, Ian Maarsen and Ross Barkley, Unai Emery’s side went big in the market this summer, with Villa also losing some key players like Douglas Luiz and Moussa Diaby.
Given that Villa are involved in this year’s UEFA Champions League, it’s no real surprise that the Villa Park side went as big as they did on new signings, with the Villians keen to once again qualify for top-four this season and to make an impact in Europe.
And Villa are still keeping tabs on one rumoured target who could be available in 2025.
Denzel Dumfries still a Villa target ahead of potential 2025 exit
According to FC Inter News, Denzel Dumfries was subject to an enquiry from Villa this summer, with the Inter Milan defender still wanted by a number of Premier League clubs having failed to sign a new deal.
Noted as an ‘excellent’ fullback, the £22m-rated right-back has been rumoured with a move to England for what now feels like years, with Villa in pole to sign Dumfries this summer in a deal that never made it off the ground.
With Tottenham also chasing Dumfries, there was a real chance that the Dutch international could have ended up in England at long last this summer, though the fullback once again remained at the San Siro with Inter.
Yet this update could give Villa hope that a transfer might be possible in the January transfer window, especially if Emery believes he needs more quality and depth in the right-back position.
Dumfries might jump at the chance to finally move to England
Dumfries has been an unusual player for Inter over the years, with the defender sometimes looking like one of the best fullbacks in the world before making a mistake or two that sees this perspective come crashing down.
Yet if there was an offer on the table from Villa to move in the January transfer window, Dumfries might jump at the chance given how exciting to the project at Villa Park is under Emery.
Indeed, a dynamic right-back who loves to bomb forward is quintessential in how Emery operates, and Dumfries could be the dream player for this role if an agreement can be reached in 2025.
