With just under a week to go until the transfer window slams shut, it’s remarkable to think that Liverpool are still yet to welcome a single signing.
Arne Slot’s new era has started with real promise, Liverpool’s strong pre-season performances were matched in the second half against Ipswich Town.
And whilst Liverpool may well continue that form with a win against Brentford on Sunday, their lack of activity this summer could eventually catch up with them.
Right now, there’s two glaringly obvious positions in which Liverpool could improve: at centre-back and in defensive midfield.
It might seem a bit harsh on Jarell Quansah and Ibrahima Konate to suggest that Liverpool desperately need to find a new partner for Virgil van Dijk, but the win against Ipswich highlighted an issue.
And in the same performance, even if Ryan Gravenberch did really improve in the second half, it was obvious that a new six was needed too.
Fortunately for Liverpool fans, it seems as if Richard Hughes and his team may be eyeing a late move for versatile midfield talent Teun Koopmeiners.
Liverpool planning late hijack to snatch Teun Koopmeiners from Juventus
Coming into this summer, Teun Koopmeiners was a top Liverpool target, Slot was thought to be very keen on his compatriot.
But as Liverpool chased the likes of Martin Zubimendi, Juventus have made real strides in their attempts to sign another top Serie A talent.

Koopmeiners is refusing to train at Atalanta right now as he attempts to force through a move to Juventus.
But according to TEAMtalk, Liverpool haven’t quite given up hope of signing the ‘world-class’ middle man just yet.
Liverpool remain interested in Koopmeiners and have asked for new information about his situation right now.

The Dutchman has already agreed personal terms with Juventus, but Atalanta would much prefer to sell their star man abroad if it comes to it.
Atalanta don’t want to sell Koopmeiners this summer, and definitely don’t want to strengthen a league rival.
Therefore, if Liverpool do arrive with serious interest before Friday’s deadline, it does seem very realistic that a deal could be concluded.
However, given that Koopmeiners isn’t a specialist number six, perhaps the signing wouldn’t quite solve Liverpool’s key issue.
