'You know': Micah Richards claims there's a signing Arne Slot must make at Liverpool this summer

Although Liverpool provided a strong account of themselves under Arne Slot against Ipswich Town on Saturday, there’s still some unease at Anfield right now.

There’s now less than two weeks to go until the transfer window slams shut, and as Liverpool fans know all too well, the club are yet to make a signing.

Jurgen Klopp signed four new midfielders during his last summer transfer window as Liverpool manager.

Similarly, Slot signed more than 10 players in the same summer at Feyenoord – it’s a peculiar situation for both Liverpool and their new manager.

And although Liverpool are close to signing Giorgi Mamardashvili, he won’t replace Alisson Becker immediately and is likely to head out on loan.

Perhaps Liverpool’s quiet summer is actually aiding Slot on the pitch right now, he isn’t having to embed new players as well as his ideas.

But as the weeks and months go on, the Dutchman could be missing some vital cogs to achieve his targets.

That being said, when speaking on ‘The Rest Is Football’ podcast, Micah Richards thought Liverpool desperately needed one addition in particular.

Micah Richards says Liverpool could be ‘punished’ if they don’t buy a number six

Richards recognised that the likes of Ryan Gravenberch and Alexis Mac Allister were excellent players, but thought Ipswich found things too easy at times on Saturday.

And against the bigger sides in the Premier League, the pundit thought that Liverpool could be ‘punished’.

Richards said: “I think in terms of going forward, I still think they need a holding midfielder you know, having Gravenberch in there and Mac Allister, and [Dominik] Szoboszlai, all very good players.

“But I feel at times Ipswich got in a little bit too easy, against the top teams that may have been punished.”

Of course, this is likely an opinion shared by the majority of Liverpool fans right now, who are still reeling after the Martin Zubimendi disappointment.

Perhaps Liverpool should move for Alan Varela, a 23-year-old talent who is really impressing at FC Porto.

But in truth, the biggest opportunity in Portugal this summer was purchasing Joao Neves from Benfica, who has now already joined Paris Saint-Germain.

That being said, and on a positive note, Gary Lineker and Alan Shearer were amazed by one Liverpool player in his minutes against Ipswich.
