Report: After Archie Gray, £25,000-a-week player is now also leaving Leeds United

Another big player is now set to depart Leeds United after Archie Gray left Elland Road for Tottenham in a £30m move.

The Whites were forced into selling the 18-year-old wonderkid after failing to secure an immediate return to the Premier League, and Daniel Farke is now set to lose another huge presence in the dressing room.

So, who is set to follow Archie Gray out of Leeds United? Let’s take a look…

Liam Cooper set to leave Leeds United with Archie Gray

A story from TEAMtalk now states that Liam Cooper is leaving Elland Road.

It is said that Leeds were not planning to offer the Scotland international a new contract when his £25,000-a-week deal ended this summer if promotion was secured, but have now put a 12-month extension on the table as the Whites aim to get out of the Championship next season.

However, Cooper is unhappy with the terms being offered, mainly as he wants a two-year contract, and with both parties at an impasse, the man with 284 appearances for Leeds is now set to walk away after a decade at Elland Road.

The 32-year-old only managed to make eight starts in the Championship last season as Farke preferred to use Joe Rodon, Ethan Ampadu and Pascal Struijk, although TEAMtalk believe the German tactician still values what the man from Kingston upon Hull offers behind the scenes in terms of leadership.

Daniel Farke has a very tough job next season

If it wasn’t already hard enough to earn promotion from the Championship, Farke’s life has just become a lot tougher after losing two players who hold Leeds very close to their hearts.

Getting out of England’s second tier is not just about having the best players, but you need a core of proper professionals who can keep people focused behind the scenes, amid a gruelling 46-game season.

Cooper is exactly that type of figure, while Gray – a Leeds academy graduates who understood the club and what it takes to play at Elland Road – was also surely a positive influence behind the scenes.

With these two now departing Leeds, Farke arguably has an even tougher campaign ahead of him than last season.
