The Arne Slot era has begun at Liverpool.
The Reds bid an emotional farewell to Jurgen Klopp on the final day of the 2023/24 Premier League season. It was tough to see him leave the club.
However, there is a lot of excitement about what’s to come under Slot, who is very highly rated in the game for his attacking football.
The Dutchman has started working on transfers at Liverpool. He revealed that he is in constant communication with Richards Hughes to discuss new signings.
Here’s the latest on one of his targets.
Arne Slot wants to sign Nico Williams for Liverpool
Nico Williams has been a star for over a year now.
The talented Athletic Bilbao winger had an outstanding 2023/24 season in Spain. He scored eight goals and provided an incredible 19 assists in all competitions.
Williams has carried his form to Euro 2024 as well. He has been brilliant for Spain and caused all sorts of problems for Italy in La Roja’s 1-0 win.
As he continues to impress, numerous clubs are thinking of signing him this summer, and Liverpool are one of them.
CaughtOffside claim that Slot has given ‘permission’ to Hughes to sign Williams. The Dutchman really appreciates his talents and wants him at Anfield next season.
However, Liverpool will face stiff competition for Williams’ signature. Barcelona, Manchester United, Chelsea and Arsenal are all interested in signing him before the window shuts in August.
Williams will be available to sign for €50 million [£42.2m] in this window thanks to a release clause in his contract.
What Williams would bring to Liverpool
Liverpool under Klopp were incredibly direct and ruthless on the counter-attack. Slot is expected to deploy a fairly similar system next season.
That means the Reds will need fast players, and there aren’t many faster than Williams.
The Spaniard possesses blistering pace. He combines that with his fantastic dribbling skills, which makes him almost ‘unplayable‘ in the final third.
To add to that, his numbers tell you that he can score goals and provide assists too, which makes him a dream forward for managers like Slot and Klopp.
Williams would be a fantastic signing for Liverpool, but whether the Reds can beat other teams to his signature remains to be seen.
