Report: Newcastle receive ‘great news’ in their pursuit of Marc Guehi after development emerges

Newcastle United already seem to have one eye on the upcoming January transfer window following a seriously underwhelming summer.

Eddie Howe‘s side have still been able to make a solid start to the Premier League campaign with 12 points on the board through their opening seven games.

It was not the summer which the Newcastle boss will have hoped for with the Toon struggling to bring their big name targets through the door.

Instead, the Magpies came into the season with an arguably weaker squad to what Howe ended the 2023/24 campaign with.

But there has now been a development elsewhere which may well have boosted Newcastle’s hopes of landing their top target from the summer.

Newcastle receive Marc Guehi transfer boost

Over the summer there was one player who Newcastle were keen to bring up to Tyneside but failed to do so.

Newcastle made multiple bids for Crystal Palace’s Marc Guehi but the Eagles ended up keeping their star centre-back.

But it now seems as if the defender could well push towards a move over the coming months after a development elsewhere.

Now, according to GiveMeSport, Guehi could well push for a move to Newcastle following the appointment of the new England manager.

On Wednesday, it was announced Thomas Tuchel had been appointed as the new England boss from January.

Sources have claimed Tuchel’s appointment is ‘great news’ for Newcastle in their pursuit of Guehi with Howe also now expected to remain on Tyneside.

It is said if Guehi is open to a move in January then he will want to understand Newcastle’s long term project which Howe seems to be at the heart of again.

Marc Guehi needs to be playing for a bigger club

With a new manager at the helm on the national side, Guehi will be looking to impress as one of the newest members to the England starting XI.

In the Premier League, Palace are struggling massively and that will not help Guehi’s case with a number of potential replacements such as Ezri Konsa available for Tuchel.

Moving to a bigger club like Newcastle will certainly do his hopes of maintaining his spot in the England side a big favour.

The Toon remain in the hunt for a spot in Europe but it will be interesting to see what the Eagles are holding out for financially after proving incredibly stubborn over the summer.
